Chancellor Bob Corlew was sworn in as the 100th President of Lions Clubs International while I was installed as District 308 B2 Governor on June 28 at the recent Lions International Convention in Fukuoka, Japan.

I am very honored and humbled to be serving together with you in this honored capacity. It is through the blessing and support of many of my fellow Lions and friends that today I am your Governor. My inauguration also coincides with Lions Centennial Celebration. This double celebration is indeed rare and very special. In view of this, together with the District Governors Team, Global Membership Team, Global Leadership Team and Centennial Service Challenge Team, we will be putting in extra efforts to make this Lion year a memorable and exciting one. Incidentally, I am also the first lady District 308 B2 Governor. This is another feather to our cap especially in terms of ladies' achievements and contributions to Lionism.
The International's theme is "New Mountains To Climb", using mountains as a metaphor for individual challenges and opportunities Lions face. Climbing these mountains provides a chance for us to make our community and the world better. This goes hand in hand with our District's theme "Touching Hearts Changing Lives".
We are in the Centennial Celebration year and this is a very special fiscal year to serve! We have new challenges to meet, more hearts to touch, more lives to change as we welcome new members and charter new clubs. I am asking you to join hands with me to make our District 308 B2 and every club stronger, provide many more lives with rays of hope, a better tomorrow as we continue to climb new mountains! I am confident that as we work together to achieve greatness, we can make a greater difference, we will accomplish greater things, we will touch more hearts change more lives, we will maximize membership growth and leadership development this Centennial year.
At the recent closing plenary of the Lions International Convention, it was reported that 93 million benefitted from the Centennial Service Challenge (which was launched at the 2014 International Convention in Toronto, Canada). With your support, the District will kick-start its Centennial Celebration on 11th July. Let's continue to host projects to benefit Youth, Vision, Hunger and the Environment and report to MyLCI and upload on our District website of your wonderful project your club has carried out.
With the support from clubs, fellow Lions and friends of Lions, the District has initiated a Community Legacy Project by constructing a gazebo on Penang Island and will be officially launched by International President Chancellor Bob Corlew. We encourage clubs to follow this lead by undertaking a Centennial Community Legacy Project this fiscal year. This will highlight the lasting importance of the humanitarian work we do and our impact on the communities locally and globally.
Art of the Centennial Service Challenge is recruiting new members and chartering new clubs. So let's challenge one another to recruit our friends with Lion's heart and charter new clubs. LCI recognizes the great significance of new memberships and has put in place a Centennial Celebration Membership Awards that will be given to individual Lion who brings in a new member into the club. Furthermore, club will also be recognized and awarded for sponsoring a new club. I am pleased to announce, at this point of writing, our District 308 B2 has more than 50 new members ready to be inducted by our distinguished International President Bob Corlew at the DG Banquet on July 10. A limited-edition brooch specially designed by me will be presented to all Centennial sponsors.
There are many generous contributors and sponsors from the many fellow Lions and friends that I know. Your contributions have made our work and that of our District much easier. Your contributions have made our effort to serve the society more effortless. I am also pleased to add that we have 20 big hearted Lions who have pledged US 1000.00 to Lions Clubs International Foundation. On behalf of our District and LCI, I would like extend a big thank you to each of you and I really appreciate your involvement in this service work.
Together we will strengthen our communities through service. Together we will touch more hearts change more lives as there is no mountain we can't climb!
