Lions Clubs International is having a continuous growth with 1.4 million members covering 210 countries and geographical areas, with more than 46,000 clubs to provide humanitarian service worldwide. It is the world largest service organization.
With the opening balance of 2195 members and 82 clubs in District 308 B2 Malaysia which covers Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Cameron Highlands, we are committed and strived to further strengthen the growth momentum created by our predecessors.
This fiscal year 2015-2016, our International President Dr Jitsuhiro Yamada's theme is " Dignity. Harmony. Humanity.". In his logo, he incorporated with a origami crane which signifies peace and long life. He is promoting dignity through humanitarian service and focus on the Children Dignity Initiative.
As our Lions Clubs International is approaching the 100 years of service, we must triple our output of service in order to achieve the Centennial Service Challenge goal of serving 100 million people by June 30, 2018 . The four areas of Centennial Service Challenge are Engaging our Youth, Relieving the Hunger, Sharing the Vision and Protecting our Environment.
Our International President also promotes harmony through cultural exchange and joint global projects. He encourage us to connect with each other internationally to seek opportunities for joint international service projects. Clubs are also encouraged to participate in this initiative through our Twinning Program.
Members are the heart of our organization, to continue through the next 100 years, we must continue to grow our membership and provide more service. This year, " Ask One " begins at home and we shall achieve the ideal one to one man and woman membership ratio by year 2020. More members equals more service.
Lastly, I thank the District Governor Team, Global Leadership Team, Global Membership Team and all my Cabinet Officers for your dedication, commitment, persistence and perseverance towards Lionism .
Serve with Dedication and Action.
